Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania! You will be warmly received at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Take some time to rest and prepare for the exciting birding adventure ahead.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park –

Begin your bird watching safari with a visit to Tarangire National Park. Explore the park’s diverse habitats, including woodlands and open grasslands, which attract a wide variety of bird species. Look out for colorful kingfishers, raptors, and water birds along the Tarangire River.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara National Park –

    Day by Day Itinerary

    Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

    In the morning you will be collected from your hotel in Arusha and make your way to Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds. From the open roof of the vehicle you will scan the seasonal swamps, savannah and Tarangire River in search of zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hartebeest, elephants, giraffes, waterbuck and reedbucks. With a bit of luck you will catch a glimpse of a lion stalking its prey or leopards lying lazily in the trees above. After an extensive game drive, having experienced the various sights and sounds of the wilderness, you will leave the park and head to a nearby campsite, where you will stay the evening.

    Day 2: Tarangire Area – Ngorongoro Crater

    After an early breakfast you will leave the Tarangire Area and drive via the Rift Valley to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro highlands. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest volcanic caldera, is almost 20km wide, approximately 600 m deep and is known for its large variety of wildlife, including the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The various springs found on the caldera floor attract animals such as wildebeest, gazelles, reedbucks and more than 500 bird species. At a picnic site you will have lunch before enjoying some more game viewing in the crater. You will leave the crater in the afternoon and drive to a campsite on the crater’s edge for your overnight.

    Day 3: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha

    Early risers will be rewarded with the breath-taking orange glow of the sun rising over the Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, you will leave the highlands and travel to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park 120km west of Arusha. The park’s namesake is a shallow and alkaline lake. It covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. On your exploration of the park you will see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. In the afternoon, you will return to Arusha, where your safari ends.

      Day by Day Itinerary

      Day 1

      Pickup from your hotel in Arusha then drive 2 hours towards Lake Manyara National Park where you will enjoy a full day game drive with a boxed-lunch pick nick. Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its tree climbing lions and stunning views over the colorful lake, which is a paradise for flamingos. While most known for baboons, the lake is also home to herbivores such as hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes. Giant fig trees and mahogany seen in the groundwater forest immediately around the park gates draw nourishment from the underground springs replenished continuously from crater highlands directly above the Manyara basin. The Great Rift Valley offers another beautiful geological and historical feature, being the site at which Lewis Leaky discovered the earliest humans fossils. Dinner and overnight at lodge or campsite. Panoroma campsite/Lake Manyara Hotel located at the top of the Great Rift Valley off the beaten track with brilliant view of the Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro highland.

      Day 2

      Rise early in the morning and head towards Serengeti National Park, which hosts the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world, and witness one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. You will enjoy a full day of game viewing as you cross the southern plains of the Serengeti, the breeding ground for migratory wildebeests. Dinner and overnight at lodge/campsite.

      Day 3

      Early morning game-drive in the Serengeti National Park around the Seronera River Circuit. Known as the heart of the Serengeti National Park, the Seronera area offers chances to watch predators hunting for their daily feast. The green grasses along the river basin are a source of life for the resident animals that do not migrate. Stop for a picnic lunch in the middle of the Serengeti. Dinner and over night at the lodge or campsite.

      Day 4

      Early morning eat breakfast before game-drive of Serengeti. Afternoon, head towards the one of the most beautiful places in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Conservation Area. One the way stop at the Oldvai Gorge the cradle of man-kind, dinner and overnight campsite/lodge.

      Day 5

      After breakfast depart from lodge and descend down the famous Ngorongoro Crater for full game drive. Ngorongoro is also referred to as being the ‘Garden of Eden’ or the ‘Ark of Noah’. The crater provides the home for the big five, wild beasts, zebras and an uncountable number of gazelles and thousands of flamingos. For lunch stop and pic-nic along side hippos at a lake in the crater. Dinner and overnight at lodge or campsite.

      Day 6

      Pick up from the lodge and head towards Tarangire National Park for a game drive around the Tarangire River Circuit where there is a higher chance of seeing the big predators hunting as the herbivores come for drinks and grazing along the river channel. Stop for a picnic lunch at a bluff overlooking the winding Tarangire River. After, proceed with the game driver to different areas of Tarangire National Park where you will be able to see wildebeest, gazelles, antelopes, ostrich, giraffes, buffaloes, and many more mammals and birds. Oh, and there will be plenty of elephants as well. In the late afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight at the bed and breakfast.

        Day by Day Itinerary

        Day 1: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park – Mto wa Mbu

        You will be met at the reception of your hotel in Arusha and drive to the Lake Manyara National Park. Not only is this park a bird-lover’s paradise with over 400 species of birds, but is also home to primates such as baboons and blue monkeys and many herbivores, such as elephants, hippos, wildebeest, impalas and giraffes. You might even catch a glimpse of the more carnivorous inhabitants, such as leopards and lions. Through the pop-up roof of your safari vehicle you will see the landscape changing from lush acacia woodlands to grassy floodplains, where colonies of flamingos and other water fowls can be found on the alkaline Lake Manyara’s shoreline. After extensive game viewing you will leave the park and head to your campsite in the small town of Mto wa Mbu. The evening can be spent lounging at the pool or bar, before you have your evening meal and overnight. The night will be spent in tents.

        Day 2: Mto wa Mbu – Serengeti National Park

        After the breakfast plates have been cleared, you will continue toward the fertile highland where wheat, coffee and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater before travelling onwards to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania with a diversity of landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains. Here the biggest wildebeest and zebra migration takes place and depending on season you will have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals on their search for nourishment. You will camp the night in the Seronera area in central Serengeti.

        Day 3: Serengeti National Park

        Today you will explore the Serengeti National Park. Your guide will take you closer to where the migrating herds are to be found. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds make their way from the hills in the north to the plains of the south, returning north during the longer rainy season from April to June. Their exact location differ yearly as they migrate according to the rainfalls, but your guide will know where you will be able to see them best. Lurking close by you might even spot some leopards, cheetahs and lions. After an eventful day you will return to your campsite in the Seronera area for your evening meal and overnight.

        Day 4: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

        Early morning you will set out on another game drive in the Serengeti before continuing towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Soon the 600 meters deep unbroken caldera will open up before you and you will have a moment to take in the fantastic, awe-inspiring views of the collapsed volcano. Your campsite lies directly on the crater’s edge, offering a once in a lifetime view as the sun slowly sets over the crater. Nestled in your tent, thinking about the adventure the next morning brings, you will drift off to sleep.

        Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

        Early in the morning you will head down the forested slopes into the crater on a steep and narrow path. The crater floor is covered in open grassland with the occasional acacia tree and two small wooded areas. Teaming with wildlife, you will be able to see many animals in a short period of time and might even be able to tick the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – off your list. Other animals present in the crater area include wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, warthogs, hippos and more than 500 species of birds. You will spend the entire morning exploring the park and after a picnic lunch in the crater, you will return to Arusha where you will arrive by early evening.

          Day by Day Itinerary

          Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

          In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and after a short briefing, you will travel in a south-westerly direction to the Tarangire National Park, best-known for its elephant herds. The park has a diversity of landscapes and animals range from swarms of yellow breasted lovebirds to buffaloes, giraffes and warthogs. Predators include lions, leopards and hyenas, while wild dogs are very rare. In the late afternoon you will leave the park and travel to the Lake Burunge Tented Camp, where you will spend the night

          Day 2: Tarangire Area – Lake Manyara National Park – Karatu

          After breakfast you leave the Tarangire Area and via the town of Mto Wa Mbu, you make your way to the Lake Manyara National Park. The park stretches along the 600 m high Rift Valley Escarpment and is dominated by the shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara which attracts thousands of birds, including huge flocks of flamingos. Other animals in the park include buffaloes, elephants, hippos and Masai giraffes as well as troops of boisterous baboons and monkeys in the forests. The park once became famous for tree climbing lions and if you are lucky to spot them you will be amused by the site of these animals lounging on branches in the acacia trees. After extensive game viewing, you will leave the park in the afternoon to continue your journey to Karatu, where you will spend the night at the Endoro lodge.

          Day 3: Karatu – Ngoro Ngoro Crater – Karatu

          After an early breakfast you will make your way into the crater on a steep and narrow road. The slopes are forested but soon the landscape changes to savannah dotted with the occasional acacia tree. The wildlife here is absolutely breath-taking and if you are lucky you might spot the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The crater is also home to warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas and many more. After a morning full of game viewing and a picnic lunch you will leave the crater in the afternoon and head back to Karatu, where you will spend another night at the Endoro Lodge

          Day 4: Karatu – Arusha

          After a leisurely breakfast you will leave the Endoro Lodge and make your way back to Arusha, where you will arrive around noon. You will be dropped off at a hotel or at the airport.
